5 Things to Check Before Importing a Car

5 Things to Check Before Importing a Car

Importing your next car directly can unlock serious savings and access to models that never officially reached the local market. But the process rewards buyers who do their homework. Here are the five checks we recommend to every customer before committing.

1. Verify the VIN and history

The Vehicle Identification Number is the car's fingerprint. Run it through a history service to confirm mileage, accident records and whether it was ever written off. Our team decodes every VIN for you as standard.

2. Understand the total landed cost

The auction or listing price is only the beginning. Budget for shipping, insurance, import duty, VAT and clearing fees so you know the true out-the-door figure.

Tip: ask for a landed-cost breakdown in writing before you pay a deposit.

3. Confirm the inspection grade

Japanese auction sheets grade vehicles from 1 to 5. Anything graded 4 or above is generally an excellent buy. We translate every auction sheet so nothing is lost in the detail.

4. Check compliance and steering

Make sure the model meets local registration and emissions rules, and confirm left- or right-hand drive to match your market.

5. Plan your financing early

Know your budget and financing options before you bid. Our flexible hire purchase plans let you spread the cost over an agreed term.
